New York City part 1

Após vários anos admirando e curtindo cada imagem, vídeo, filmes e seriados passados em New York City, finalmente fui conhecer essa cidade fantástica. NYC é uma cidade que não pára, literalmente. Tudo fica aberto até tarde (pelo menos em Manhattan), os prédios são realmente lindos e gigantes, pessoas do mundo inteiro visitando, morando e trabalhando, restaurantes de todo tipo de culinária, enfim, para quem gosta de prédios, muita gente, barulho, NYC é ideal para sua viagem!

After long years of admiration and enjoying each picture, video, movies and series from New York, I finally visited this amazing city. NYC is a city where everything works and it never stops, literally. The stores are always open (at least in Manhattan), the buildings are really cool and huge, people from the whole world visiting, living and working, all kinds of restaurants, well, for those who like buildings, crowd, noise, NYC is your perfect trip!

Eu particularmente, AMEI NYC. Tudo é maravilhoso. As pessoas foram muito receptivas (desde atendentes, vendedores, pessoal do hotel, pedestres, policiais, etc) e digo, POR MINHA EXPERIÊNCIA, que NYC é perfeita. Simplesmente perfeita, aos meus olhos. Claro que é fácil dizer e se encantar com apenas 7 dias, talvez não tenha sido suficiente para conhecer melhor a rotina do New Yorker, mas dá pra ter uma idéia de como as coisas funcionam por lá.

I particularly LOVED NYC. Everything there is wonderful. People were very kind (attendants, sellers, hotel staff, passersby, policemen, etc) and I say, BY MY EXPERIENCE, that NYC is perfect. Simply perfect to my eyes. Of course, it is easy to say and to fall in love within 7 days, maybe it hasn't been enough to see and to know the routine of a New Yorker, but I think it was good to have a basic idea about it.

O custo de vida em NYC não é baixo, mas também não é caro comparado a SP. Creio que em Miami as taxas são mais baratas, então para compras seria o melhor lugar dos EUA. Mas mesmo assim, ainda compensa fazer compras em NY, os preços são no mínimo 40% mais barato que em SP. Na região da Times Square, as lojas são as mais variadas possíveis: M&M's, Mac, Apple, Nike, Hard Rock (restaurante também), etc. Para quem curte fazer compras, leve muitos dólares.

The cost of living in NYC is not cheap, neither expensive compared to SP. I believe Miami has lower taxes, so if the idea is to shop in USA, NY isn't the best place. Although NY doesn't have the best taxes and prices compared to others cities in US, the difference between shopping there and in SP is about 40% of savings, which makes a huge difference in the end. In Times Square region, there are many different and varied stores: M&M's, MAC, Apple, Nike, Hard Rock (also as a restaurant), Victoria Secret, etc. For those who enjoy shopping, take a lot of money.

Algo que me chamou muito à atenção, foi que você têm seu espaço respeitado em NY. Ninguém te encara, ou fica medindo para saber se está usando roupas de marca, ou se as calças combinam com a blusa, ou se a touca é no formato da bandeira dos EUA, ou se você usa um chapéu Panamá com blusa de moletom. Isso digo não só nas ruas, mas mesmo em restaurantes, você é bem tratado da mesma forma. Me parece que lá as pessoas não se importam com as outras nesse sentido, pois elas tem muito mais o que fazer, pensar e agir, ao invés de ficar se importando com o que você usa. Isso realmente é ridículo, coisa de terceiro mundo, em querer cuidar da vida dos outros. Para aqueles que precisam de calor humano 100% do tempo, vai se frustrar. Conversei um pouco com as pessoas lá, não nas ruas, mas em estabelecimentos, e para minha surpresa, além de ter sido muito bem tratado (como disse antes), foram cordiais, perguntaram sobre o Brasil, foram descontraídos, e sorriram bastante (claro que precisam vender, tratar bem turista, etc, mas comparando com experiencias minhas aqui em SP, eu diria que me surpreendi com tal cordialidade e interesse).

Something very remarkable to me was that I could see the respect they have to the others. No one stares at you judging your clothes, body, etc., not only on the streets but also in stores and restaurants if you want to wear sweater pants with jeans jacket and an American hat, you won't be noticed, because they don't care. It means that they have better things to do instead of checking your outfit or something like this. This is great. It is ridiculous when someones stares at you to check your things .. come on, leave us alone! For those who need human contact all the time, I think that could be a frustration, cause they are not an "iceberg" but don't expect to have a beer so fast. (I didn't see anyone drinking beer there). I talked a little bit to some people there (attendants, sellers, etc) and for my surprise all of them were really polite and kind. They asked about Brazil, World Cup 2014, etc, they smiled and were really nice to me, different from some stores in SP that the best greeting I've had was: "Yo" .. or they simply nod the head and wait for my speaking. When I hear that Americans, Europeans, Argentine are rude, "cold", quiet, I really think if Brazilians aren't the ones who have been rude and impolite, wanting everything in their way, being so selfish and egocentric that is impossible to accept different cultures. It makes me wonder ...

A cidade respira John Lennon também pelo que percebi, não só no Central Park, mas os artistas covers em bares, nas ruas ou até mesmo pinturas e quadros espalhados por Manhattan. A questão da música em NY é bem interessante, pois o Jazz e Rap andam lado a lado (claro que no Harlem por exemplo, rola mais rap). É facil entender o porquê John Lennon queria tanto a cidadania American e morar em NYC. A sensação que tive, é que NYC te chama para "curtir" e ser bem vindo. Principalmente quando vi a estátua da Liberdade, foi um dos momentos que mais me emocionei. Parece mesmo que a estátua fala: "venha para NYC, estamos de braços abertos, sinta-se a vontade como se estivesse em casa". Lembrando, que é MINHA OPINIÃO, então deve ter gente que pensa o contrário, etc.

NY breaths John Lennon as I could notice, not only in Central Park but also in bars, streets and pictures around Manhattan. The point is that music in NY has an interesting issue, because Jazz and Rap go hand in hand (of course in Harlem for example, rap is more common). It is easy to understand why John Lennon wanted so bad the American citizenship and to live in NY. I had the sensation that NYC "calls" you to enjoy and to be welcome. Especially when I saw the Statue of Liberty, one of the best moments I've ever had. It seems that it says: "come to NYC, we are with arms wide open, feel as if you were in your house". I'd like to remind that this is MY OPINION, so there must be people who think different.
